Pond Water Clarity -Troubleshooting FAQ
There are many variables as to why a pond/lake may not be clearing and areas to consider when managing a pond/lake:
-Size or Gallons of water: Calculations for Rock / Gallons of Water / Liner
-What is the rate of water flow, (the rate in which the water is re-circulated)?
-Is the rate of water flow sufficient for the gallons of water in the pond/lake?
Minimum water flow/recirculation should turn over the total volume of the pond once every 2 hours.
-Is the pond/lake spring or well fed with no water re-circulation?
-Plants, fish, rocks in the pond: The Aquascape Ecosystem-How It Works
-May/June is the spawning season for fish. This activity will cloud the water considerably. AquaClearer Bacteria application may be doubled during this time to aid in clearing the water.
-How often and how much are the fish fed? Weekly feeding is recommended and the portion fed should be no more than the fish will completely clean up within a 5 minute period. Overfeeding will greatly increase fish waste, cloud water, and discourage fish (Koi) from feeding on string algae attached to rocks and plants.
-Location in full sunlight, partial sunlight or shade?
-String algae is present.
-If in shade, are fallen leaves and branches from tree(s) removed?
-Is this body of water annually cleaned? Pond Cleanout Instructions
The Aquascape EcoSystem components, along with management techniques and products may be applied to bodies of water up to one acre in size.
If your pond is more on the side of a standing, very large pond or lake, rather than a flowing ornamental water garden, we would recommend contacting a lake management company in your local area who should be able to recommend appropriate treatment/management of a very large pond or lake.
