_____ Thus reads the title page of this book. The fronticepiece is titled Stages of Society, and shows scenes labeled Savage, Barbarous, Half-Civilized and Civilized and enlightened. _____

_____ The first chapter, Geographical Definitions, is formed as a series of questions and answers. The first question is What is geography? Ans. A description of the surface of the Earth. 2. What is the surface of teh Earth? A. The outside part. It continues identifying geographical features, and divisions of the earth, zones, etc. Question 294. Man is the most perfect of the works of God, being created in his own image, and formed by his wisdom to subdue and exercise dominion over all the earth. 295> From whom has the whole human race descended? A. From our first parents, Adam and Eve. It goes on to discuss the differences in the races and their classification, followed by a descussion of religion and language. _____

_____ The most space is devoted to North America, and the United States in particular, with its 33 States, 7 Territories, and 1 District. Then comes discussions of South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceanica. There are many black and white pictures. _____

_____ Hard cover, 4-1/4 x 7 inches, with 336 pages and 16 catalog pages advertising text books. _____

_____ Condition is fair. The leather spine is split all the way down, with pieces missing at top and bottom. The cover is badly worn, along with the corners. Text pages have a bit of foxing, but are in very good condition. Without accompanying atlas. _____
