_____ This book is for the teaching of English, put out by the State Department of Education, Division of Immigrant Education, in 1924. It was prepared through the courtesy of the California Federation of Women's Clubs.

_____ The instruction to teachers says in part, ''These lessons attempt to cover part of the vocabulary that the foreign born in California agricultural sections need. The teacher will find the need to supplement these with lessons of a more local character and to give more lessons on vinyards, dairying, etc.''

_____ This is a soft covered booklet, 6 x 9 in., 38 pages. There is a stain at the lower right corner, about 2 x 3-1/2 inches, on all the pages of the book. There is a hole in the front cover, within the stain, because it stuck to the next page. The staples are quite rusty. Otherwise, it is unmarked.

_____ This is a good example of how English as a second language was taught in early days.
