Christian Home Cookbook (Mennonite)
This hardcover cookbook was first printed in 1966 and is in it's eleventh printing. It includes recipes from the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The recipes were contributed by people from Canada, United States and Mexico, so there is a wide variety of tastes represented. I received this cookbook many years ago as a gift and one of my favorites is a recipe my sister made for my husband and I when I came home from the hospital with our first child 20 years ago. It is called Hamburger "Luscious" and it is my sample recipe.
Hamburger "Luscious"
1 lb. hamburger1 stalk chopped celery2 cups fine dried nookles1/8 t. pepper1/2 lb. American cheese, sliced1 (No. 2 can) tomatoes1 tsp. salt
Brown meat slightly in a skillet.
Season with salt, pepper, and onion.
Arrange the remaining ingredients in layers as listed, over browned meat.
Sprinkle salt and pepper over noodles.
Cover, bring to a boil on high heat.
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Occasionally remove cover and press noodles into the liquid.
