Duet Acting - Becky Thatcher
Duet Acting
by Mark Twain
An adorable scene between Tom Sawyer and his elementary school sweetheart, Becky Thatcher. It's a refreshing reminder of both the innocence of youth and the it's simple heartaches. Tom and Becky decide to go steady, and to seal the deal by kissing at the pond. But before they get there, Tom accidently mentions his former sweetheart Amy Lawrence. At the mention of her name, Becky is devistated and cancels her promise to meet Tom at the pond. Tom tries to convince her otherwise, but her little heart is broken. As Tom watches her leave, he reasons to himself as only Tom Sawyer can do, and convinces himself that he will now turn all of his attention to becoming the "Great Black Avenger." This piece would be best for young looking 8th - 10th graders who are mature enough to act like elementary age children. This cutting has won several awards.
