Religious Reading - The Centurion

Religious Reading
Author Unknown

Vespasian is a Roman Centurion, head of Emporer Nero's prize wrestlers. Nero has sent these handpicked 100 men to fight in the army as they try to conquer Gaul. Vespasian is stunned when her revieves the order from Rome to kill all soldiers who do not deny their faith in Jesus Christ as Messiah. The Centurion knows that many of his men believe in Christ, and he himself has desired to know more about Jesus. Grimly, he goes out to follow the orders. Forty of his men step forward as believers in Jesus. He orders them to go to the middle of a frozen lake while the rest of the camp sits at the edge of the lake around a fire. Only if they desire to deny Jesus may they come back to the camp and the warmth of the fire. While they await death, the forty wrestlers repeat the creed they once quoted in the arena, but this time the words are changed. "Forty Wrestlers, wrestling for thee, Oh Christ, to win for thee the victory, and from thee the victors crown." Hours pass, and soon the chant is changed. "Thirty-nine wrestlers..." There is a powerful ending making this speech a winner and a challenge to all Christians. It is recommended that this speech be given by a guy, but girls can do well with it as well.
