Humorous Monologue - Betty At the Baseball Game
Humorous Reading
By Walter Ben Hare
A very naive lady named Betty is taken to her first baseball game by her husband, and is telling one of her friends all about her exciting time. As the reading progresses, it's clear that Betty doesn't know the first thing about baseball! She is offended that all the men in the stands seemed to be happy that "they struck a fowl! The very idea of trying to strike a poor innocent bird with that baseball!" When her husband leaves her to go talk to a friend. She tries to act interested in the game as she sits alone. When she looks around for her husband, he is "waving his hat and shouting to me at the top of his voice: 'Come on home! Come on home! You fool, come on home!'-- right there in front of thousands of people!" She staggers toward him, and before she knows it, he is yelling, "Go back! Go back!" The poor woman is so confused! Her feet fly out from under her, and the "entire crowd" is yelling "Slide! Slide!" And she slides right down the stairs of the grandstands. A great character, and lots of fun!
