Twelve year old George Bates tells the story of how he got his sister back for shutting him out of the living room every time one of her boyfriends would call. One night, he positions himself under the couch while she is getting ready for a date. ". . . Pretty soon I saw it begin to get darker, and then they sat down on the sofa an' I heard them go smack! I turned my voice way down deep like a fog horn and said, 'Quit that!' The couple is afraid it's her father, but then they forget about it and he starts 'raving about her blue, blue eyes, pale as the blue, blue sea,' or something like that. And her 'Italian locks full of ripples and waves.' Yuk! I reached into my pocket to get a candy and realized I almost forgot about Freddie! He's my pet mouse." From there on out, the night is a fiasco! The mouse has Ann, his sister, cornered on the couch screaming, her date starts to chase the mouse, but falls flat on his face because our friend George Bates has tied his shoestrings together from under the couch. The cat starts chasing the mouse, Ann is screaming for George's blood, the cat knocks the curtains, rod and all, right on the boyfriends head! Reminiscent of a Tom Sawyer story! Hilarious!
