Humorous Interp - The Ransom of Red Chief
Humorous Interp
Humorous Reading
by O. Henry
The story of two small time bandits, who plan to kidnap the son of a wealthy man and hold him for ransom. The plan SOUNDS like a good one, but they pick the wrong kid! He is a terror! While Sam writes the ransom note, and orchestrates everything, Bill is left to watch the boy at a cave several miles away from the town. The boy thinks it is an adventure, and wants to play cowboys and indians. He insists on being called Red Chief, and claims Bill as his captive. Meanwhile, the father of the boy is making counter offers to the ransom, which was not in the plan. By the end of the story, Bill has been kicked, punched, jumped on, nearly scalped at daybreak, tied to a stake, burnt with a hot potato, ridden like a mule, fed dirt (for oats), and asked every question known to man. At the end, both men are literally terrified of the boy, and THEY give the FATHER the $250 ransom, to take the boy BACK!! Absolutely hilarious! Two adult male characters, and one boy.
approx. 7-9 min.
Also available as a Duet Acting, with the boy pantomimed by the two bandits! A real winner!!
