Humorous Interp - A Game of Cat and Croquet
Humorous Interp
Humorous Reading
taken from "Alice in Wonderland"
by Lewis Carroll
Following the white rabbit through the dream world of wonderland, Alice comes upon the King and Queen playing a very odd game of croquet. ". . . the croquet balls were live hedgehogs, and the mallets live flamingos, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches." While they are playing, the smile of the Cheshire Cat appears, and Alice is glad to have a friend to talk to. But the King decides he doesn't like that cat and wants it removed. He asks the queen and she gives her usual answer, "Off with his head!" But as the Cheshire Cat is known to do, he has only partly appeared. Only his head has appeared thus far. His body cannot be seen. This poses a problem for the executioner, and the King, the Queen and the executioner get into a lively debate.
Very comical and lots of fun! A British accent is suggested at least for Alice, and possibly the King and Queen. Many opportunities for creating characters - white rabbit, Alice, Cheshire Cat, Queen, and King.
approx. 6-7 min.
