Dramatic Interp - The Man Without A Country
Dramatic Interpretation or Dramatic Reading
by Edward Everett Hale
Taken from the famous short story, this tells the story of a young officer in the United State army who gets convinced by Aaron Burr to turn his back on America, and conquer the west as a new country. President Jefferson tries Burr of treason, and the army follows suit with every officer who had any association with Burr. During Nolan's trial, he states that he never wishes to hear of the United States again. As his sentence, the court grants him his request, and for the next 50 years or more, Nolan is transferred from ship to ship, without ever hearing any news, reading any information, or talking to anyone about his former country. On his death bed, a young officer takes pity on him, and tells him everything he can before the old man dies. Very powerful, with all male characters! Extremely patriotic and moving!
