Religious Reading - Abide With Me
by Nathan Allen
The story of the life of Henry F. Lyte, author of the hymn "Abide With Me." He was a minister in a small town in Devonshire, England. He had experienced much hardship and disappointment, both physically and spiritually in his ministry. Towards the end of his life, he was forced to leave his congregation, due to his lung disease, and the night before he left he wrote the words to the hymn "Abide With Me." He handed the words to a friend and said, "Here are some simple lines I've composed for God's flock. When I am gone, read them for me to the congregation." Henry F. Lyte did not make it to Rome. He met his Lord in Nice, France, and abides with Him even now. Powerful story.
