WELCOME TO HANCOCK COUNTY, TENNESSEE Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, we have everything from Elrod Falls Park, to our own "Mayberry" (in the form of Sneedville), complete with Aunt B's Restaurant. Sneedville is our county seat. The town is just about the most perfect place for raising a family or just plain enjoying life you can find. Don't believe me? Come with me to our SummerFest, a shindig we have on the first Saturday every June. When you cross Clinch Mountain coming towards Sneedville, you need to set your clocks back......about 50 years.....to a time when folks were honest, friendly and caring, and when the world was a slower-paced, easier place in which to live. However, you don't HAVE to go to kerosene lamps and outhouses to live in our county. What modern conveniences we don't have in Hancock County, like huge shopping malls, are only a few minutes over the mountain (so you get a scenic mountain drive while going and coming). We boast an excellent education system, two medical clinics, dentistry and even a chiropractor and a veterinarian. One of our doctors even makes house-calls!!! If you're considering building your dream home here in "Over Home", then you'll want to visit with Dan and Sharon DePriest, at Total Temperature Control Heating and Air Conditioning. There are churches galore, local shopping, beauty parlors, a motel, lots of Fun Things to See and Do, many eating establishments, a host of support services, and the annual Hancock County Fall Festival. Hancock County is also home to the Melungeons, a wonderful people whose ancestry has been shrouded in the mists of time.
