About The Hands On Children's Museum

The Hands On Children's Museum will promote hands-on participatory learning for children of all ages. Encouraging discovery through observation, inquiry, creative construction, role-playing, problem-solving, and free play, the museum motivates children to develop their cognitive, physical, and social skills while enjoying fruitful interaction with adults and peers.

There are three corollaries that support and enhance the Hands On Children's Museum's mission:

1. The Hands On Children's Museum will be part of the local educational infrastructure. The Museum will be a community resource that reinforces school-based learning and understanding achieved through experience. The exhibition of new and familiar topics strengthens prior learning and promote self-directed inquiry.

Employment and volunteering at the Hands On Children's Museum will provide learning experience for youth and adults.

The Hands On Children's Museum will play a vital role in local economic development by strengthening Jacksonville's image as a family tourist destination. Exhibits and eductional programs highlight local industries and Jacksonville's multi-cultural heritage.

In fulfilling its mission, the Hands On Children's Museum maintains prudent and ethical management standards, including the participation of diverse ethnic and socio-economic groups in the Museum's governance and operations.
