Accepting Credit Cards with an on-line Merchant Account

Accepting credit cards, either in your store or on the web, requires a Merchant Account from a bank and a way to process the transactions. In a traditional store you pay a monthly fee for the equipment and use of the software, plus a percentage of each sale to the processing company.

We offer several merchant account options, the prices range from FREE with one of our packages up to $99.00/month. The free accounts have some limits to start with and are a little more difficult to get approved for. However, for most small businesses, they are an ideal way to start accepting credit cards. If you expect to have a high sales volume from the very beginning, or a high "chargeback" rate, then we will recommend the best account for you.

Remember, ALL Merchant Accounts charge a fee for each sale they process. Our accounts have rates (called discount rates) of 2.5% to 3.75% and some have a minimum transaction fee, usually $ 0.50 to $ 0.75.

We have relationships with a number of banks and can get anyone approved for a Merchant Account as long as you have never been convicted of credit card fraud or had a Merchant Account closed by the issuer. Note: if you have bad credit, you may be rejected for the free accounts as a high risk for uncollectable chargebacks. We will get you approved for an account with a monthly fee from a bank willing to take more risks (the fees are being pooled to defray losses due to uncollectable chargebacks.

Once you get an account it will be associated with a checking account you already have. You will have the bank deposit the money from your sales into the checking account and they will take any chargebacks directly from that account. It will be important to allways have enough money in that account to cover any chargebacks. You are not in control of chargebacks, the credit card company is. You can not stop a chargeback if the credit card company agrees with the customer.

We will advise you on how to reduce the risk of chargebacks, and some of the banks we deal with will provide tools to help you with this.
