CANOEING SAFARIS FACT FILE
Zambezi River 2700km from the source to the Indian Ocean
Lower Zambezi Section Between Lake Kariba and Caborra Bassa Dam spanning a total distance of some 230km of River
With a number of canoeing and walking options available, Lilac Travel Adventures can tailor make trips to suite every itinerary.
Geographically, this middle section of river passes through the confines of the Kariba Gorge and through the Mana Pools Flood plain region where the highest game populations exist along the entire length of the Zambezi River.
Climate
June to November is generally the best time of year Canoe in terms of wildlife concentrations. Much of the inland water has dried up, and game tends to move onto the riverfront for water. Temperatures are at the highest over September and October in the Valley. Rains start in November and run through to March, waterproof clothing should be brought over this period. Winter months run through from May through to July where warm clothing is necessary in the evenings
Transfers to the Safari areas
Lilac Travel Adventures will arrange transfers from Lusaka, Harare or Livingstone or Victoria Falls on request.
On arrival in Kariba, guests are collected from their respective points of accommodation on the day of the safaris departure.

Transfer times to starting point of canoeing Safari (road)
0900hrs to 0930hrs to start of Kariba launch point
0900hrs to 1130hrs to start of Chirundu launch point
Transfer times of return journeys (road)
10 00hrs to 12 30hrs Chirundu exit to Kariba
8 30hrs to 13 00hrs Chongwe to Kariba
Note: During the rains (November - April) boat transfers where necessary
