St. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON IN CELTIC STYLE
The legend of Saint George reached England as early as the 7th century which tells of a land being bruised by a malevolent dragon, which poisoned any who approached it with its rancid breath - evidently an extreme case of halitosis! The dragon laid siege to a city, whose inhabitants appeased it by supplying it with a daily meal of two sheep.
When they began to run out of sheep, it was decided that a human victim, chosen by lot, would be substituted instead. The lot fell upon the King's beautiful daughter, who went to her fate dressed, rather bizarrely, in bridal clothes.
As the dragon approached the princess, it was intercepted by George of Lydda, a chivalrous knight, who engaged the creature in single combat. George disabled the dragon with his lance, bound it with the princess's girdle, and took it captive and helped the local people to get rid of the dragon since then.
