THE VIKING SHIP
Our beautiful Vietnamese Lacquerware will bring you back to the Viking time with their famous ships that unable them to travel from their Scandinavian homeland as far a field as America (known to the Vikings as in the west and Baghdad in the east).
This Long ship was the thoroughbred-racing warship. It was usually about 25m/ 80ft long. Each gunwale was pierced with holes for oars, and a single mast stepped amidships carried a large, square sail. This gave the Long ships speed and maneuverability and their shallowness of draught allowed them to penetrate rivers They needed no harbors for they were designed to be beached on any shelving sandy shore. These ships with warriors helped to make the Vikings the dominant power in Europe for three centuries, beginning in about A.D. 800.
Although the Vikings are best known to many of us as raiders, they were also traders, explorers and settlers, wherever they went.
