Frequently Asked Questions
American Institute of Skin Care
Acne Questions and Answers
Can you tell me about the treatment?
We use a medically proven treatment utilizing products that are applied directly to the skin. You take no oral medication, thus reducing potential side-effects and you apply our treatment twice each day. Thousands of patients have used our treatment over the past several years with dramatic results.
How long will it take to clear my skin?
Depending on the severity of your condition and how closely you follow the regimen we prescribe, you can expect results in three to six months.
When I clear what do I do?
We suggest that you remain on a maintenance program for a few additional months, to make sure your immune system is ready to handle your condition on its own.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are extremely rare. Our treatment is very safe. However, any reaction in the first few days or weeks should be reported to one of our medical assistants to be sure you are not experiencing an allergic reaction to the products or the topical medication. You should be aware that your infection may flair in the second or third week. Don't give up at this point as flaring is a temporary and fairly common occurrence as your skin adjusts. You should continue with the treatment as instructed.
Why are there no oral medications in the treatment?
There are harmful side effects -- such as yeast infections and breaking down your natural immune system -- associated with oral medications. Our treatment avoids potential complications because it is applied directly to the skin.
Why do I need to blot areas when they get oily?
Oil acts as a reservoir and breeding ground for bacteria. Blotting the oily areas of the skin lessens the possiblity for new or increased bacteria growth.
Why should I wash after any physical activity?
As you work out your pores open allowing sweat and toxins to come out of your pores. When you cool down your pores contract, pulling those toxins back into the skin. It is important to cleanse (wash) your skin before those impurities become absorbed back into your pores.
Why do I wash my hair at night?
We want the area where you sleep to be as clean as possible. Dirt and other contaminants that cling to your hair during the day will transfer to your sleeping area. After you shampoo your hair don't recontaminate it. This means no hair sprays, conditioners or gels should be in your hair at night.
Why should I air dry?
Most people's flesh lacks moisture. Air drying allows additional time for some of the moisture to penetrate into your skin.
Can I wear makeup?
Makeup, especially base makeup, will plug your pores, obstructing the skin's ability to breath. Also, you are spreading the bacteria from the infected areas of your skin to uninfected areas. As you apply the makup to infected areas on your skin, the bacteria will intermix with your makeup allowing it to become contaminated. We suggest you limit makeup to lipstick and minimal eye makeup.
Can I purchase individual products?
Yes. Products are available for individual sale.
