BOOKS about Appalachian Mountain Culture

Foxfire Books
Appalachian Books for the Holidays

Imagine peering into a corner over at the far side of the attic.

It's lit only by the dusky light filtering in through the Attic's sole window.

Suddenly you notice that there is an old, dusty bookshelf with several books stacked haphazardly.

In the late 1960s, Eliot Wigginton and his students created the magazine Foxfire in an effort to record and preserve the traditional folk culture of the Southern Appalachians. These books are a compilation of Foxfire material and introduce Aunt Arie and her contemporaries and includes log cabin building, hog dressing, snake lore, mountain crafts and food, and other affairs of plain living.

To know us is to love us, at least in our opinion.

You'll love the way the spelling is modified to reflect the way the words are spoken.

If you read slowly and close you eyes, you'll almost hear the words just as they were said…..of course, if you close your eyes you can't read a blessed thing, but you get the idea.

Since we imagine you don't like paying middle-men any more than we do, these books are offered through Amazon.com, which is where these links will take you to order them.

But y'all come back soon, ya' hear, and visit Your Grandmother's Attic again real soon. We'll miss you while you're gone.
